composer. But Pleyel's music enjoyed a great popularity in those days, and with such a diffusion that escaped the control of the author himself, who more than once went on a rampage because of the many pirated editions
circulating everywhere and for some licenses that publishers were taking without his permission.
Pleyel was paradoxically the one who earned less with his music, and this must have weighed heavily in his decision to abandon forever the role of composer to become a publisher himself and, later still, a piano maker.
